Moulin Rouge at Blue Hour – Paris Print

Description

Blue hour on the Boulevard de Clichy, with the exposure held long enough to turn the Moulin Rouge windmill into a spinning disc of gold. The neon is at full strength against a sky that has just gone deep cobalt, and a vehicle passing on the boulevard has left a clean red streak across the bottom of the frame.

Shot low from the far side of the street to take in the whole facade and keep the verticals of the building beside it, so the composition builds out of the dark left edge and into the blaze of red on the right.

This is a loud print and it knows it. Saturated red, gold and cobalt, with enough black holding it together to keep it from shouting. It belongs somewhere with a bit of nerve: a bar, a games room, a studio, a hallway that could use waking up.
